Building-Integrated
Photovoltaics (BIPVs)
The Beauty of Built-In Energy
Photovoltaic panels can be used to replace conventional building materials on a variety of surfaces throughout the building envelope – such as the roof, skylights, and facades.
The great advantage of using integrated photovoltaics rather than more common, non-integrated solar panels is that they can offset a lot of initial cost by reducing the amount spent on the conventional building materials and labor that would normally have been used to construct the parts of the building that the BIPV modules replace.
In addition, since BIPVs are an integral part of the design, they tend to blend in better and are more aesthetically appealing than other solar options. These advantages make BIPV one of the fastest growing segments of the photovoltaic industry.
